PostRank is an online service that uses a complex set of algorithms to rank blog posts, with the goal of telling you, blog reader, what’s popular. This means if a certain blog post that contains one or two must-read nuggets of wisdom starts making its way around the Internet, PostRank will find it and show you just how popular it is. PostRank does this by keeping track of how often a blog post has been tagged on social bookmarking sites like Delicious and how much the blog post has been shared among friends on social networks like Facebook.
This tool could be incredibly useful for both blog writers, web copywriting experts, and readers alike. Readers will be able to use the PostRank search system to find the most popular blogs in any category. But that’s what Technorati already does, doesn’t it? Yes. But here’s where PageRank attempts to one-up Technorati, the current leader in blog indexing and search. PageRank also lets you see the most popular posts in every blog it has listed. Blog posts are ranked in a 1-10 scale, based on how much they’ve made the rounds through the internet. Blog posts that have soared across Facebook and have been bookmarked by a ton of users get a 10. Posts that are generally ignored get a 1.
And that’s great for the reader looking for important and popular posts. But what about the blogger and web copywriting expert? Now bloggers and web copywriting professionals have an easy method of finding out which posts of theirs managed to set the Internet ablaze and which ones floundered. Right now, PostRank is still only in beta release—that means that there are still several kinks that need to be worked out—but it could prove to be an essential tool for any blogger or web copywriting professional who wants to track their own impact within the blogosphere.
