Is Google #Adwords Losing to #Facebook Advertising?

Thursday, February 24th, 2011

Every week or so, I get an email that says something like “Facebook Advertising Trumps Google” or “Drop Google PPC Now, Switch to Facebook Ads.” And this week wasn’t any different. Ryan Deiss sent this short list why he’s switching from Adwords to Facebook Advertising.

1. Facebook has way more traffic. Over 500 BILLION
page views a month.

2. I can TARGET my ads so that only people
who really want my stuff see my ads… duh!

3. Facebook is simple to use and fast, you’ll be
getting killer traffic in just a few hours.

4. Facebook ads are 1/4 – HALF the cost of
Google Adwords.

5. Facebook loves affiliates and they love their
advertiser and marketers…

Facebook is gaining ground on the B2B market, afterall business owners are consumers too, AND they are using Facebook. Search Circus clients’ have found much success with using FB advertising in conjunction with other PPC platforms and works especially well with those companies that have a low budget for online advertising.

What do YOU know about the benefits and success rate of using Facebook Advertising (PPC) for B2B or B2C?

#Facebook Tips: How to Delete an App

Friday, February 18th, 2011

I taught an Intro to Facebook class the other night with 2/3 of the students (adult learners) that had never used Facebook, and two students were actually hesitant to even create a profile.

However, one student stumped me with a question, “How do you delete an app from your profile?” You know some of those annoying things like Farmville, Cafe World, Astrology, What Kind of Rock Star Are You? Places I’ve Been and so forth? Yes, those as well as 1,000’s of others too. I do like Apps on Facebook, don’t get me wrong, love them for business and even like some of them for my personal profile, but sometimes joining these apps clutters my News Feed and I just want them gone.

So, how DOES one remove an app from their facebook profile? (There were plenty of pages about this on FB, but not ones with simple answers.) Here’s what you do:

1.  Go to the Account tab in the upper right hand corner of your profile. Click on the arrow, so that you can see the drop-down menu options.

2. Select Privacy Settings.

3.  Your Privacy Settings appear. Look at the bottom left-hand corner under Apps and Websites. Click Edit your settings.

4. After you click on Edit your settings you’ll see the window below with all the apps you are using and the last date you used each one. You can expand the list here too.

6.  Now you’ll see a full list of each app with Edit Settings to the right of each one. Select which app you want to delete by clicking on the little “x” next to Edit Settings.

7. A pop-up box will appear informing you “If you remove (name of app here), it will no longer have access to your data and be removed from your profile, bookmarks, and Applications Page.” Click “Remove” and now this app has been removed from your profile and you won’t be bothered by this Facebook app anymore on your news feed!

Use #Hashtags – Get Your Business Blog Noticed

Wednesday, February 16th, 2011

Have you ever gone to a conference, one that your company forced on you or maybe even one that you thought would be very valuable? Then after the first couple sessions or speakers, you’re asking yourself, “Why I am here again?” Sometimes we’re looking for Mr. Goodbar and get stuck with leftover Halloween candy. I know you have.

I’ve gone to a few conferences the past couple years and although I couldn’t validate the whole experience as worthwhile, I did gleen a few blogging tips and social media marketing ideas that we could use at Search Circus. The best business blogging (or  personal blogging for that matter) tactic was incorporating hashtags in your blog post title.

Hashtags, better known as the pound or number sign “#” a funny little character that is found on your keyboard, iPad and all cell phones. It’s best to use just 1 or 2 hashtags in your title for words that you want to target or add to other buzz online. If you have been following this blog, you’ll notice that I’ve been using hashtags quite regularly.

Using hashtags in your corporate/business blog title when combined with other social media plugins and RSS feeds i.e. Twitter, can lead to other feeds picking up your blog (your business, you as an author) and create an incredible following. I  used #Egypt in a recent blog post after reading an update on my LinkedIn profile. It proved to be very effective and time-sensitive because not only did it add to the millions of tweets already posted, but also a couple paper.li publications picked it up too. You can also track these hashtag feeds on your analytics.
