  • Try Facebook and LinkedIn. If you aren’t already on these sites, sign up now! Not only are they a great way to connect with customers and potential customers, but they’re also a great place to advertise your site.
  • Update your creative frequency. Use a “call to action” to create a sense of urgency that entices every viewer of your ad to click on it.
  • Rely on 3rd party tools when dealing with big PPC campaigns.
  • Plan and launch post-Christmas campaigns such as after-Christmas sale advertisements.

An article from Website Magazine called The Super-Awesome-Mega-Optimal Guide to Links for Traffic and Search Engine Exposure discussed how to use links to increase Website traffic. Author, Dante A. Monteverde said “the one true secret of link building is that the best link has yet to be discovered.” Here are some of the traffic sources he suggests you use that generate more links back to your Website and as a result generate more traffic.
  • Public Relations: Services such as PRWeb, BusinessWire, PR.com and PRNewswire are great ways to get noticed in the media and attract other website owners who are looking for information to feature on their site. In short, press releases will lead people to your site and inspire them to link to it. More links equals more traffic.
  • Classifieds: There’s many visitors that will come to your site just because of your classified advertising, whether it’s free or paid. Sites like Craigslist, Oodle, USFreeAds and Backpage as well as local newspapers are great places to get attention.
  • Video: Another way to gain exposure is through online video. According to Monteverde, “going viral can help get your website to a tipping point far faster than any other online channel.” If you submit videos to sites like YouTube, Blip.tv and MetaCafe, make sure to monitor what videos were popular and also watching the performances of others to see what’s getting attention.

Why Yahoo! Will Remain a High Traffic Website Leader

Lately, Yahoo! hasn’t exactly been the healthiest online brand or the high traffic Web site with the most positive outlook. Very public reports of internal struggles and courting by both Microsoft and Google have painted a picture of an online high traffic Web site that’s struggling to keep its head above water. But it appears that reports of Yahoo’s death are greatly exaggerated.

The latest Nielsen Online VideoCensus has shown a 56% jump in Yahoo’s online video high traffic Web site market share. In September 2008, 264 million videos were streamed on Yahoo’s video channel. That’s still tiny compared to high traffic Web site YouTube’s astounding 5.3 billion video streams for the same month, but it should show the potential advantage of diversifying online video distribution.

One of the reasons for Yahoo’s high traffic Web site jump is the debut of the popular Primetime In No Time program—an online video that gives a synopsis of broadcast TV highlights. Also, viewers seemed to have enough faith in the Yahoo high traffic Web site brand to visit the site for financial videos. Since YouTube’s brand image is tied to user-generated content, Yahoo’s “professional” image may be its saving grace. In tough economic times, and with an important Presidential election nearing, users apparently went with Yahoo! for news and information.
