It’s no secret that Facebook is a booming online Internet advertising website. All the big brand advertisers are lining up to advertise with Facebook, being that it is the second-most visited website on the Internet right now. But why do Facebook ads work so well?
Click Z explored the idea and made some interesting points. One thing they wrote about is Facebook’s online Internet advertising has certain characteristics that seem to go against common strategies online Iinternet advertisers have been using for years. For example, most online Internet advertising strategists think the bigger, flashier and more animated the ad, the better. However, looking at Facebook, the ads aren’t huge, they aren’t flashing and jumping out in pop-ups at users. Facebook ads aren’t overwhelming and taking users away from what they want to be doing either. They are just there and they seem to be working. Also when Facebook found that banner ads weren’t working, they eliminated them immediately, which is something many online Internet advertising companies would be afraid to do.
Facebook also has its fan pages, where businesses can use online Internet advertising to promote their business and gain fans. Gaining fans has great financial value because it gives businesses a chance to connect with customers. Click Z said Facebook sells itself “as the best way for brands to reach the masses, make a connection and build long-term value through ongoing communication.” All of these things are true and since checking Facebook accounts has become a daily routine in so many people’s lives, it’s clear that it will continue to be one of the most valuable online Internet advertising platforms around.
MySpace doesn’t seem to be as popular as Facebook, for users or for advertisers. Why do you think that is?
