These Internet marketing tips will help you build a successful online community.

Today, there aren’t many businesses that have figured out how to use social media marketing properly to build a functional online community that their company can benefit from. Even if you know the importance of creating a great online image and community you may not know how to achieve it. Here are some Internet marketing tips provided by Mashable that can help you build an online community that will increase brand awareness, drive traffic to your Website and increase your business and customer loyalty.

Identify your business objectives. Make sure you define what business objectives you want to accomplish before you begin creating your online community. The purpose of your online community could include support, digital marketing or networking. However keep in mind that your community should also be somewhere for your members to meet their objectives such as finding the answer to a question or connecting with other people with their same interests.

Be personal. Making your online community more personal rather than business-like will increase success. People use social media for communication above all else, so if all of your posts look like marketing posts or advertisements, your community will fail. It’s important to include a mix of advertise-y posts along with fun, interesting information that will keep members engaged.

Become a news source. Concentrate on making your online community a one-stop-shop for its members for news and information about a particular subject they are interested in. If you achieve this, you know people will keep returning to your site as well as recommending it to others as long as you keep the information interesting and up to date. You’ll also gain credibility for your business which will increase trust and sales.

Ask for opinions. The beauty of social networking online is that you can interact with the customers directly. If you’ve just released a new product, ask them what they think. Then use their opinions to improve on the product in the future or create new products that you know they’ll enjoy.

Give online community members privileges. This will provide an incentive for people to join the online community. Give your members access to special online content, new information, discounted products or contests.

Find out Mashable's predictions for social networking online in 2011.

2010 was the year of the social networks. Facebook and Twitter both grew drastically while Myspace still lagged behind. However, what’s in store for social networking online for 2011?

Here are 3 of Mashable’s predictions.

Google’s social networking efforts fail in 2011. Although Google is King when it comes to search engines and it owns YouTube, the Internet’s biggest video outlet, it seems to keep striking out when it comes to social networking. In 2010, Google’s attempts at social networking were all shut down, Google Wave, Google Buzz and Google’s big social initiative has been delayed. For these reasons, Mashable has predicted that Google’s social media efforts will be failures.

MySpace will be sold off. Although MySpace was once the King of social networking, its throne has been taken and it doesn’t look like it’s coming back. The site has been trying to stage a comeback with its total redesign, however it doesn’t appear to be helping. Mashable predicts this year that MySpace will be sold off or completely bottom out. So if you’re a small business looking to get into social media marketing, don’t start off on this social networking site, it appears to be a sinking ship.

Mobile photos will be the new social networking online trend of 2011. According to Brian Pokorny, Dailybooth CEO, argued during a talk at the Web 2.0 Summit in San Franciso that “publishing has evolved from desktop (blogging) to the phone (tweeting) to the smartphone (photo-taking).” Social photography will reach an all-time high in 2011 and will have the population downloading photo-sharing applications to their smart phones to keep up with their friends. How can social media marketers use this trend to their advantage?
