Would You Watch a Movie on Facebook?

Wednesday, August 24th, 2011

It didn’t take long for Facebook to add a new feature to appeal to the movie buff in us.

We already spend countless hours playing around on the social networking site wasting our day, now thanks to the partnership with Miramax, how many more hours will be sucked out of us?

Miramax announced on its blog that it’s partnering with Facebook to launch Miramax Experience, an app that will allow users worldwide to watch movie clips and feature-length films from the studio.

Movies Will Soon Be Available on Facebook

The company goes on to say that there are over 50 million friends on Facebook that mention a Miramax film in their profile, interact with the Miramax page or like the fan pages of Miramax titles and talent like Good Will Hunting,  Pulp Fiction, Quentin Tarantino and more.

The Miramax App is going to offer consumers an experience where they can play games and share their thoughts and feedback with their friends within the Facebook community.

There will even be Facebook Credits and Connect to make it easier to use the service.

Is this partnership annoying, or genius? What’s Facebook’s next trick up its sleeve to get us to spend our entire day surfing their site?

Doesn’t matter. We’re going to check out the new feature, which ultimately, is exactly the intended goal.

Social Media Developments: Innovative, or Annoying?

Wednesday, August 10th, 2011

Everyday, there seems to be a new social media site feature created that we have to explore. With so much social media marketing and information thrown our way, it’s hard to stay on top of the latest trends.

Here’s two of the newest updates in the social media world.

1. Frozen Bytes – Have you ever wondered what you were doing, or thinking this time last year? Thanks to Facebook’s latest feature, you now have that option.

As you’re surfing the site, past statuses can appear on the right-hand side.

The “On This Day in (insert year here)” message and status shows up usually when you’re looking at friends’ photo albums.

You can “Like” stepping back in social media time, and see what else you had to say back then, or click the “show more” button to see additional status updates.

If Your Friends Like a Feature, Odds Are You Will Too

2. Showing Lists – FourSquare now allows users to create lists to rank the types of businesses they know best, from cupcake making places, coffee shops and malls to popular restaurants. You can create your list, rate your places, and share them with friends. We know that if we see one of our friends frequently visiting a place, we’re more prone to try it ourselves.

Are consumers being confused, and possibly annoyed by the addition of features to social media sites almost on a daily basis? Whatever happened to that saying, “If it’s not broke, don’t try to fix it”?

In the mean time, we’ll still continue to check out the latest trend and probably  “like”, “share”, “post”, “tweet”, or “follow” it.

Can SEO and Social Media Be Friends to Create Online Marketing Success?

Monday, August 1st, 2011

Is traditional search methods becoming extinct thanks to social search? Is SEO sinking because of it?

What most people don’t realize is that social media and social search are just Internet marketing tools available to SEO professionals.

Search Engine Journal thinks SEO and social media shouldn’t compete against one another. They need to work together to create a more Online presence for companies.

According to Twitter, around 25% of all Tweets contain a URL. In March 2011, Twitter was seeing an average of 140 million Tweets per day.

When companies publish content on Twitter, they’re encouraging their network to both read the content and pass it along to their followers in the form of a reTweet.

SEO and Social Media Can Create Online Success Together

Facebook works a little differently. It’s a misconception that the more “Likes” a company has on Facebook, the better. Although “Likes” are important, they’re becoming overpowered by the number of “Shares” a piece of content has.

Plenty of people “Like” a company page to receive coupons and discounts. Most of them will also unlike the page just as fast, and probably never return. But, when someone “Shares” content by posting it to their Facebook wall, they are displaying that info to their network. They believe it’s valuable in some way, whether it’s informative, or entertaining.

Social networks drive traffic. That’s a fact. If companies want to drive traffic to their blog, posting samples of each new post to Facebook, or LinkedIn, is a great way to do just that.

The point is to have the reader leave the social networking site, and visit the blog site.

SEO’s main goal is to drive targeted traffic. Social networking is about connecting with your audience on a personal level.

Social media and SEO professionals shouldn’t be fighting over whose method is more important to businesses and the Online world.

Both principles are more closely related than people think.

When SEO and social media marketing is combined, a much more powerful and comprehensive online marketing strategy is created.
